Floral Infusion SS08

One of the key trends for spring summer 2008 is the floral trend. This look is a throwback to the grunge era of the early 90's but is done in a much more feminine and modern way this time around. Below are my key looks of this trend found on the runway.

Post Market Wrap - New York City

New York, New York!! I think most people will agree that NY's shows and fairs are not particulaly exciting (perhaps with the exception always relevant and exciting Marc Jacobs) but they hold the brands that are the bread and butter of the business.  Not much new at coterie other than the infestation of celebrity brands like Chick by Nicky Hilton and Lauren Conrads line (rep'd by Lauren herself).  Below are my top 10 pics, in no particular order, of the New York shows:

10) 3.1 Phillip Lim - wonderful layering, fabulous shots of cobalt blue and urban cool at its best

9) Alexander Wang - simplistic grunge

8) Derek Lam - understated uptown chic

7) Erin Fetherston - dark simple shapes infused with flowing floral themes

6) Jenni Kayne - a dream for today's hipster girl

5) Jill Sander - simplistic bliss

4) Jovovich Hawk - quirky cool

3) Narciso Rodriguez - clean and sexy

2) Zero Maria Cornejo - playful colour

1) Marc Jacobs - modest and new

Do you dress for the city you are in?

Traveling from London to New York to Toronto to London to Paris and back got me thinking....do you dress for the city you are in? In most cities there is a fashion uniform, except perhaps in London where individuality reigns all, however, I noticed going from city to city during fashion weeks some of the fashion weekers submitted to a wee bit of pressure. In short I found I saw quite a few fashionistas from city to city change their style vibe.

I found that some of the ladies dressed VERY exciting and fashionable in London, to very minimalist in New York, and quite Parisian in Paris.  It got me thinking way back to high school where some girls would wear what everybody else would just to fit in.  I actually understood to an extent the thought process of these ladies, as travelling back to my home town of Toronto (where the style vibe is very similar to New York) I found myself toning it down just a wee bit.  This was simply a conscious effort to avoid the annoying conversation of "what are you wearing?" by some of the not so clued up ladies and gents back home.  Having said that I would still always dress for myself and wear what I would usually, just being a bit cautious to anything that might not translate just yet.  I was quite shocked seeing some (not all) of the same ladies over and over with a total fashion overhaul depending on the city we were in.

This left me with the ultimate question...do you dress for the city you are in?

Long time, no style?

Apologies all around for the lack of postings! Now that New York and Paris fashion weeks are over I am back on track and have many posts ready to go including market wrap ups. Forgive me?
