The Times report - best of 2007

The Times came out with a best of 2007 list full of beauty and fashion hits and misses for the year. While I do find their choices quite exciting (Beth Ditto, Alexa Chung and Eva Green!)..a few I could have lived without..ahem...Sienna Miller? The best part of the article is the below anecdote about Lip Gloss that rings entirely true...seriously, who still wears lip gloss? Comparing it to porn star chic? Priceless. See below for article link.

"RIP:thigh-high socks on all but the nubile; ludicrously dimensioned handbags; fake tans; plastic bags; WAG style; Ugly Betty(can there be any clichés left?); body con (we’re conscious enough of our bodies, thank you); going knickerless (so passé); lip gloss (come on, we can kick this if we really try; all we have to do is look in the mirror and see how porn-star “chic” worked its way into our make-up bags). Chanel in Pictures

The Chanel Paris-Londres show went off Thursday evening without a hitch...well maybe just a little rain. It was a star studded event with everyone from Lily Allen to the stunning (even more so in person) Claudia Schiffer. Funnily enough the crowd was filled more with "Potter" fans than fashionista followers. When Natalia Vodianova came out of her car the eager Potter fans began shouting "Emma!! Emma!". Natalia gave them a confused look and when they realized this was not the Emma they were awaiting the crowed quited down just enough to hear me say "Her name is Natalia!". She and I made eye contact and everyone laughed....at my expense!

The arrivals were even more exciting than usual with the car of choice being a black cab with the Chanel logo. How fabulous! When the Kaiser himself arrived looking fantastic in all black my cold, cold heart got a little colder! He is FANTASTIC!!

Chanel takes over Nobu Berkeley

Last night Karl Lagerfeld host a bevy of celebrities, models, supermodels, musicians and socialites for the Chanel dinner hosted at Nobu Berkeley. The night was a kick off to the show commencing tonight at the new Phillips de Pury building in Knightsbridge. The show is aptly named Paris-Londres and is part of the maison d'art collection held each year. This marks the very first Chanel show hosted in London. In previous years the shows have taken place in Monte Carlo, Tokyo, New York and Paris. Although this marks the first time in London Chanel's styling and aesthetic has much to do with British culture and style. Coco Chanel had a tumultuous affair with the Duke of Westminster, which prompted him to brand the city of London with her trademark cc's. Chanel was said to take much of her inspiration from the Duke as well as London traditions so much so that her trademark blazers were said to have been inspired by London army jackets at the time.

British Fashion Awards 2007

Tuesday November 27th marked this years British Fashion Awards. Stella McCartney got the top honour of designer of the year, while Dame Vivian Westwood scooped up the prestigious award of outstanding achievement in fashion design. Christopher Bailey, Marchesa and Marc Jacobs( for the fabulous Mount street store) all received awards as well. The most anticipated award of the night, model of the year, went of course to the "it" girl about town Agyness Deyn who just happened to receive a phone call from her mother while accepting the award! Seriously...who else would it be?!

It's Christmas Time in the City!!!

London is an absolutely magical place around the holidays and although we don't want to admit it a lot of the excitement revolves around the lights put up in the streets and displays in stores. While we wander the streets aimlessly in hopes of finding the perfect present the windows truly are a lovely distraction. The pictures below were taken by the lovely miss Esther Firman showcasing the beautiful windows on Oxford Street, Knightsbridge and other various parts of London.

The end of an era BOOMBOX

Anyone having survived a London fashion week or just a pillar in the nu-rave fashionista community has been to Boombox at one time or another (if not every Sunday!).

Rumour around London is that after a few years and countless fashion weeks Boombox is coming to an end on New Years Eve 2007. The night is often filled with the fabulous, the flamboyant, and the fashionable. Boombox was often a home away from home for Gareth Pugh (and his Agness of course), Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Saunders (I myself had a blast at his SS08 afterparty!), Naomi Campbell, Daisy Lowe, Peaches Geldolf, the list goes on and on.

This will hopefully morph into the next hot night by February just in time for the FW07 aftershows! Hoxton will never be the same.

Carnaby Steet

Carnaby street gained fame during the 1960's "swinging London". In the 1950's it was the grounds for bespoke tailoring with many shops creating suits for Saville Row. Eventually it morphed into an area in London very well known for trendy boutiques and "mod" style and still holds true to this today with many fabulous stores in the area (my personal favourite is Liberty's) Carnaby street was the heart of "swinging london" with its roots in rock and roll!

Introductions

Hello fellow Londoners and fashion lovers,

This is a site dedicated to London Street style. From Shoreditch to Kensington, London style today reflects the city's eclectic and multicultural nature. London itself has strong roots in music, and punk in particular with Miss Vivienne Westwood acting as the Queen of punk. These roots greatly influence the aesthetic of London street style.

The style itself is about individuality, not cookie cutter fashion or "uniforms" often found in some other cities. Individual style is appreciated and not oppressed by ideas of "normality".

Please feel free to send in any interesting street styles or London fashion news, enjoy the pictures and get inspired by amazing London style.
